Brotherly love

April 28, 2008

In my family, I don’t have any brothers. That’s ok, cause Heaven gave me a lot of good “brothers” outside.

I luff all my brothers deep deep… not in the relationship way la! In the “brotherly love” way lol

No more puddles

April 27, 2008

Had my first trail ride today and I am exhausted. Every time I saw a puddle, I crashed. There were 20 puddles along the way. Yay.

Somehow I feel that I would love to have a partner who would ride with me. Not just a partner who loves bikes (I’ve had that before), but a partner who is similar to me in objectives, skill level (or better but willing to wait up) and motivation.

I don’t want to be a trophy girl for a racer, cheering at the tracks etc. I mean that would be cool, but you’d probably forever be amusing yourself reading magazines while your partner does great things and you can’t join in cause your skill level isn’t good enough for the terrain =_=”‘. And you’d forever be shut out of your partner’s fun activities cause you can’t keep up and didn’t have the time or opportunities to build up your skill.

It’s better to have someone you can actually ride with and have fun together.

If I hadn’t broken up with KTM I wouldn’t have struck out on my own and become more independent instead of just sitting around passively.
Now I don’t have a partner but I do have some new riding buddies to ride with. They are willing to wait up for me and help me as and when needed. And that makes me happy 😀

Flirting

Flirting is fun. I do it often. However, sometimes I get unwanted attention from strange ah peks. But it gets you good contacts (if you sieve out the rotten ones). Mind you, flirting sometimes has EXTREMELY UNDESIRABLE consequences.

Goals and dreams

Unfortunately if the person is too focused on his own goals and interests at the expense of everyone around him, that makes him a prick (unfortunately many successful people are like that, I think it must be a part of their personality that also allows them to succeed).

Be careful what you wish for and work towards… it might just freak you out when you actually get it.
(Following your dreams is a lot harder than not following them. Sometimes we wonder why we put ourselves through all this shit and then the answer is that we simply can’t live knowing that we haven’t tried).

Self-improvement

Self-improvement is good. It keeps you from bouncing off the walls.

Errr… damn it I got what I wanted but I AM SO DAMN TERRIFIED NOW…. O_o

Some alliances are not worth the trouble that they create.

How can I ever be able to fully accept this?
It would make my life so much easier.

Some (Straits Times)Urban-ish post: Biking gear

April 19, 2008

I love riding gear. I’m crazy over it the way girls are crazy over bags.

Ok, I might tell you all this stuff about how it protects your skin, bones, vital organs etc. but the truth is, I like it cause it just looks so damn good. It’s not cheap too. My last purchase, a carbon fiber HJC full face helmet (it was on offer) set me back by almost $400. And I’m already eyeing a Komine jacket and would have bought it if it came in the right colour (still waiting for them to bring it in 🙂 )

I have to admit, I have a soft spot for Japanese riding gear (ok I know HJC is Korean, but it was cheaper than a Shoei or Arai anyway). It just looks so anime-ish, like the gear worn by anime characters before they go to battle in their big robots.

I mean just look at this and you’ll get what I mean:

That would turn an everyday commute into an adventure. Lol.

Ok, it all started when I decided to get a raincoat and I bought an RS Taichi one. Oh man, it was just a raincoat but it looked so bloody good I wore it everywhere as a jacket. Non-riders even asked me where I bought it and I was like erm… it’s the top half of a raincoat.

Then one day I decided to get another helmet and since Motoworld was having an offer on RS Taichi jackets too and I had been thinking of getting some protective gear for some time already, I decided to poke around and take a look. And then I saw the Komine jacket. Oh man, it really looked like something out of an anime, yet not too unusual looking to wear. And when I put it on, man, it looked good. And it wasn’t too pricey too, as jackets go. Under $200 dollars.

Unfortunately they didn’t have the colour I wanted so I have to wait. Bah.

In Singapore, where most people don’t gear up, a girl in a so-called excessive amount of biking gear can attract a lot of attention.

Today it was the HJC HQ-1 Lordship helmet.

So I was wearing more ‘girl’ kinda clothes and was warming Knut up and this uncle on a kupkia dropped off his wife at my block. Then he rode up to the lot beside me to park and park his bike like a few lots away from mine and just stood there staring. Then I started to feel a little weird and I was like “um… hello” and he smiled and just continued staring and i was like :s

Then I rode to LTA to do some transfers and the guy doing the transfers thought I was riding a big bike and I was like no, no, I’m riding a small bike la. And we started chatting about bikes and he said he could help me source for bikes if I ever thought of buying one. At the end of it, he was like ‘if you need any help in future can call me’. And I was like “um… ok! :)”

Then I went to Vicom to do inspection and when I was queuing up to pay and this strange lorry uncle came up to me and smiled at me with a very perverted smile. And I was like O_O *moves away*.

And I went to renew my road tax and parked my bike outside and this young guy who also parked his cub outside came over and said “Your helmet is very nice, how much did you buy it for?” And I told him I bought it for $399 at Motoworld.

Then I went to have lunch and when I was going to ride away, this uncle talking on a handphone came over to me and my bike and started talking to me about “wah, you’re so young and already ride bike…. etc.” And I was like thinking, weird uncle, he’s obviously talking to me but he has a handphone to his ear (perhaps his wife was around lol)

Yesterday, I went back to school to pay my library fine and some weird guy yelled “Hello” at me when I was parking Knut in the carpark. In my past year of riding Knut to school, I have not had anyone I didn’t know try to communicate with me while I was with my bike. And I was in jeans and a baggy t-shirt so it couldn’t be that I was wearing sexy clothes or what. I gave him a wtf expression.

Hey, I don’t get this kind of treatment when I wear my plain black helmet ok?

That’s it, it must be the bling bling stylo helmet.
I wonder what will happen when I get that jacket.
(Hm… anyway Knut is an uncle magnet lol)

Blue tracksuit guy

April 18, 2008

Today I met the owner of the new bike downstairs. It’s an FBC plate scooter with a p-plate. Which I noticed cause ours are the only bikes that are covered around the area. Rider was a guy in a blue tracksuit.

I met him coming into the carpark and seeing his uber-slow, cautious cornering and very very obvious p-plate, I decided to be nice and not overtake him. He saw me following him and moved off to the side. I thought he was going to park but later when I was wrapping up Knut (lol), I saw a guy in a blue tracksuit also covering his bike. And I was like hey, isn’t that the new bike? So I hurriedly wrapped Knut and went to take the lift cause it’s good to know fellow riders in your block.

I think he was pretty shocked that I was actually so small and I didn’t have a p-plate anymore and he was still a p-plater lols. And he said Knut was good-looking and I was like no la, he’s an old bike already haha.

And I told him to be careful about his bike cause it was very new and I told him the whole rexz story. At first he was not worried as he had bought third-party fire and theft insurance but after I told him the whole claiming fiasco (I haven’t blogged about it because it hasn’t been resolved yet, even after half a year =_=”‘) i think he thought otherwise. I told him to get a lock for his bike and he said he would.

Nice to meet fellow riders around your block 🙂 The only ones I know now are blue tracksuit scooter guy, CG125 guy and yellow super4 guy. Think there aren’t any more though…

The roads are paved with dead bikers

April 18, 2008

Usually I put on quite a large (by Singapore standards) amount of gear before I even step out of the house and ride my bike. A full-face helmet, jeans and a bright orange jacket for visibility.

Well today, I was wearing all black, shorts and a t-shirt. Cause I figured, I’m just popping down to the park, nothing will happen right?

Well, evidently I was wrong, cause I was nearly run over by a lorry that just proceeded to roll merrily through a red light. And being lucky, I was the one crossing the intersection in front of it.

Well, obviously Knut had enough power to dodge past it otherwise I wouldn’t be here typing this entry and I would be in hospital getting skin grafts instead. But it was pretty close (the lorry was less than one metre from me) and pretty hair-raising. I actually screamed.

(Now I know how I’ll sound like if I’m killed in any sort of accident. They say that people will usually yell out in their mother tongue when they’re in danger. Well, evidently I have mother tongue issues cause the only sound I could produce was “AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!”

Everyone ride safe.

Um… how much was that Komine armored jacket again?
