I’m clean!

September 27, 2007

5 days have passed and it looks like I do not have any demerit points yet!

Looks like this time I got off lucky.

Must be more careful next time.
(Heaves a sigh of relief and gets back to riding again)

Motocross Beginners Course

September 23, 2007

I went for the motocross beginner’s course, which was jointly organised by The New Paper and the MSSC (Motorcycle Safety and Sports Club or something like that)
We rode mini mini scramblers! So fun!
Only two qualified riders, me and this Indian guy, but there was this ‘ang moh’ (Caucasian) guy, don’t know whether he had a local bike license or not.
The Indian guy looked very ‘pro’ so I didn’t dare to admit I had a license… then ‘malu’ (embarrass) in front of him… ><
Alot of ‘zha bor’ (girls) and they all dunno how to ride bike.
Some even come in shorts and slippers…. =_=”‘
I mean ya la, I wear shorts and ride (and I am trying to quit that habit ok) but I will never wear slippers and ride.
My friend wears slippers to ride, then one day the sole of his slipper was abraded until the strap came out. Both slippers gave way at once, in the end he had to ride to the nearest shoe shop in his bare feet (ouch…) to buy a pair of slippers.
Now he’s still wearing slippers to ride… ahahahah.
And anyway I can’t kick start my bike with slippers. (My friend can and I don’t know how he does it)

Lol…
The cushion on the helmet provided was so squashed that I could say ‘no’ without shaking my head (shakes helmet).
The zhar bor all dunno how to tie helmet strap.
I ended up helping someone to tie helmet strap and take photos of herself and her friend.
Forgot their names already… ‘paiseh’ (means something like ‘sorry’ or ’embarassed’).
Then the rest all never tie the helmet strap properly I think.
But this kind of course, ‘buang’ (crash) already also ‘boh dai zi’ (nothing happen).
So no worries.

I grouped in the same group with the girls.
Everyone had to put down their leg at the corner.
Except me!
But I’m was the only one who ‘kena’ (got) wide turning… ahahahahahah.
And the instructor was like ‘I saw that, I saw that!’
He told me to put my leg down for better balance.
So I did, the first time I put my leg on the ground in the corner… and was nearly thrown off balance.
Came back saying, “Eh, it’s worse!’
He told me that my leg didn’t need to touch the ground, just take it off to prepare in case I fall.
Well, so I tried that… still somewhat ok.
Couldn’t tell whether it improved or not, seems to have improved a bit.

One of the girls was telling me that my riding was very stable.
I mean duh la… when did I start learning and when did they start learning?
Their first attempt on motorbike very good already.
Better than my first attempt… >< but mine was a full size manual bike la.
Stall stall, bang wall, very fun =_=”‘

Cornering is a bit different off-road.
Cause on road, you just use eye point, usually will just go where you intend to go.
But off-road, sometimes when you’re leaned over, your tire will hit some hard things and redirect your course.
But your normal balancing will be super good cause of resistance from the soil.
Next time I go back to SSDC, I’ll tell the instructors, “Eh your narrow plank put some bumps and mud leh, then more resistance and can balance better… hahahaha”
Then they’ll say, “You ‘siao’ (crazy) ah, go do bumpy course la, you”.

Was chatting with one of the organisers…
The tiny tiny bike cost around $3k.
Last time I saw it in the Hong Leong showroom, we were all teasing my mother and saying, “Look you have to ride that one, the rest too big”.
Semi-automatic, 80cc I think.
The handlebar reminded me of a bicycle.
Top speed around 60km/h, 3 gears.

They said members could sign for an insurance plan, which covers you not just when playing motocross, also covers you when you’re riding on the road.
Shiok eh?
Unfortunately I forgot how much you have to pay per year 😡

.

I miss my moto. My aunt is staying at my house for a few days and I have to hide the moto from her. For this few days, I have to pretend that we have nothing to do with each other. And I just got the bike shop to adjust his engine too and it sounds really great. I’m dying to ride! 😦

Being disciplined

September 21, 2007

‘Being disciplined’ to me is:

Wearing long pants and a jacket every time you ride.
Not squeezing.
Not turning the throttle more than you need to.
Not ‘cheonging’ (rushing – not an exact translation but correct in this sense) amber lights.
Slowing down before entering a corner instead of just trying to chance it.
Not riding when you’re tired, not in a good mood or otherwise out of condition.

I’m don’t find I am a disciplined rider.
But I’m trying hard to change.
(SATan just beat another red light and is worrying about her license)

What is ‘being disciplined’ to you?
(Doesn’t need to be related to motorcycles)

My Hong Leong Yamaha adventure

September 21, 2007

Well, I sent my bikey to Hong Leong Yamaha for its first free service. My appointment time was 9-10am. So I set off merrily at 9.30am.

(Don’t forget SATan is directionally challenged)

Well, I was supposed to go in the opening in the front but unfortunately I overshot cause my view was blocked by a barrier.

So never mind, I turned in at the next turn.

It was a dead end.

So I went out again and continued onwards, and before I knew it, I found myself at Macpherson?

Better turn back, this is getting weird.

So I turned into a left turn and attempted to do 2 left turns back, cause that usually works right?

I ended up in a housing estate. After asking for directions from 2 helpful residents, I came to the conclusion that I was supposed to join Macpherson again and then u-turn back. So I did.

And at an intersection, a biker caught my attention. And he said, “Your tire is punctured!”

Oh shit.

And I decided to risk it to Hong Leong cause I figured that it’d probably last the distance.

(Don’t forget SATan is directionally challenged)

Well, somehow it just started getting more and more ‘ulu’ (out-of-the-way) and there were nothing but construction sites.

I figured I had gone too far.

And I had, cause now I was at Old Airport Road, opposite the Air Force Museum.

Well, I was so frazzled that I just decided to call Hong Leong and tell them I was lost.

The guy said, “ok, ok, don’t panic”.

I said, “But another biker said my tire was punctured and I don’t dare to ride it far, especially cause I might get lost again.”

He was like, “Oh no, that is quite dangerous.”

And then I got towed to Hong Leong.

Ended up talking cock with the staff for almost the whole day until my bike got fixed.

It has more power now *grinz*… they helped me adjust the engine and top up my engine oil.

Hm. The last time I came was to collect my bike, and my bike was pretty anyhow-ly done up. (Kickstand not adjusted properly, etc.)
But this time round, they did quite a good job.
$160 for GIVI box and bracket (large enough for 2 half-face helmets)
🙂

祝君好

September 18, 2007

Nice song… was the theme song of some HK show I watched but I can’t remember which one.

Cheung Chilam reminds me of 1 instructor at SSDC (Teo KW) for some reason… but I have no idea why. Hm… they don’t even look alike. (Come to think of it, Cheung Chilam looks more like 1 of my guy friends)

Between a rock and a hard place

September 18, 2007

Once I told my lecturer, “A bike is like a boyfriend your parents disapprove of, you know he’s bad for you but you can’t get yourself away from him”.

One day I nearly crashed.
My first thought was, I cannot crash here. How shall I answer to my parents if I crash? How will my family pay for my medical bills if I crash? How will my father ever let my sister ride if I crash?
And that was why I kept fighting.
I won’t stop fighting to survive until I hit the ground.
(That’s why I still persist in wearing shorts to ride. The reason is that I have no feasible ‘after-crash plan’. Therefore, crashing is not an option.)

It’s hard to ride if you’re too responsible.
Any sane person would quit.
But I can’t.

The funny thing is that if you wear a t-shirt and shorts while riding, you feel okay.
Then try putting a jacket over the t-shirt and suddenly your legs feel kinda naked.
Weird, isn’t it?

First post with my new router

September 18, 2007

Set up my router today, am now blogging with my school laptop 🙂
At first I bought a spare cable cause I only had one at home. Then I opened up the box and I found that they had provided a cable. I was kicking myself for buying the spare cable when I plugged in the provided cable and found it was defective. Oh well, I didn’t waste $4 on that spare cable after all.

I miss road safety park leh… the last time I went there was in primary school and I couldn’t cycle and didn’t get a go-kart and ended up as a sad pedestrian sitting under some damn mushroom pavillion… Now should go there with pocket bike and disturb all the little kids in go-karts, ‘blow blow’ at them and anyhow ride… shiok 😀

Driving centres – the good version:
SSDC – Super Safe Driving Centre
BBDC – ‘Boh Buang’ (Never hit) Driving Centre
CDC – Can Drive Centre

And the bad version:
SSDC – Super Squid Driving Centre
BBDC – Buang Buang Driving Centre
CDC – Cannot Drive Centre

Total up my big purchases so far:
Full-face helmet: $210
Raincoat: $70
Bike bracket and box: $230 (still can bargain)
Black watch: $180
Alcohol from duty-free: Around $60
Router (with cable): $77
Can ride and carry stuff in the rain, connect my school laptop to my home internet: Priceless
No more money to take Class 3 license: Even more priceless ><

Argh I’ll reply to all your comments later. I sleepy now. Gd nite!

The closest I have ever got to an accident

September 14, 2007

Today I nearly ‘langgar’ (collided with) a black pickup as I was going down Lornie road towards Upper Thomson Road.
I was trying to change lane cause the traffic in that lane was slow (there was an accident further up along the road, I later found out)
Then while I was checking mirror, I looked back and suddenly realised that the pickup in front of me had suddenly slowed down. A collision was imminent.
I could not stop.
I took a chance, and swerved to its right, into the next lane.
The foreign workers in a passing lorry sat up and stared. Some even rose from their seats.
My motorcycle missed the pickup by mere inches.
I escaped intact.
So I nearly was the second accident.

After the incident, I was a little shaken.
The traffic all through the route had been rather heavy and a little chaotic.
I was wondering all kinds of things like, ‘Will I be able to get home? (Or will I be lying under a vehicle, with my blood dripping into the tarmac?) What shall I tell my father if I’m involved in an accident? (He doesn’t know I ride to school, and disapproves of it anyway). Why am I wearing a flimsy pair of shorts?

Well, I got home safely.
But I realised why my mother had always been against me riding to school on my motorcycle.
The route is really very dangerous, especially around peak hour.
Sometimes people can tell you something a hundred times and you won’t listen.
You actually have to experience it before you truly understand.

Gone shopping

September 13, 2007

Had a rare free day today, went shopping at Motoworld (the Short Street one).

Was my first time at a bike gear shop haha.  Had to buy a raincoat cause I was sick of not being able to ride bike because of rain. Decided to get a helmet too, since we were already there, and since we were getting a helmet, we might just as well get a full-face.

It was very funny.
When I was buying my full-face, the shop guy asked me, “What type of bike do you ride?”
I was like, “RXZ”.
His reaction was funny. He was like “HUH?”
And we were like,  “Safety, safety!!” ^^

The raincoat was a RS Taichi Rainbuster (blue) which cost $70.
The helmet was a HJC FG-14 (black) which cost $210.
You decide whether I got ripped off or not.
I don’t think I did ^^
