Me bike leaky

May 13, 2008

Lol the box thing was because I failed to secure it properly, meaning I’ve been riding around with an unsecured box for nearly half a year. O_o
Thanks to Mah Motor for their help. You guys are great and your bikes are nice too. :)

Brought my bike down to Holeshot today to check brake fluid level and change engine oil before I leave for the US, so newbie P-plate sis can have a well-functioning reliable bike that hopefully needs 0 maintanence for 2 months.

The mechanic pointed out to me that my carburetor was leaking. I know he’s not bluffing me cause I’ve been noticing patches of petrol under Knut but never could locate the leak.
Hm… is this related to the last time I bought Knut to be serviced (Dirtwheel)? Cause I asked them to check the throttle and clean the carb. @#%#%$!!!!!
Damage: $40 but they have to order the part so I have to come back another day.

He also said the brake pads need changing. This one was mentioned by some of my trail buddies previously. It can still be used, but will probably not be able to last for 2 months, so I’ll probably change it anyway.
Damage: $25

Moral of the story: Use your money where it matters. (I haven’t bought the handguards btw)

Off the bike it fell

May 13, 2008

Yesterday I was riding home from Ah Boy having resolved the whole brake lever fiasco, and then as I was riding into my home carpark, my GIVI 45L box suddenly dislodged itself from my bike and fell off despite being locked. When I inspected it, I realized that the box could be pulled off the bike even though the key was in the locked position. This Givi box is only less than a year old and hasn’t been put through any unusual strains or whatever.

Shocking.

I called up Mah motors (distributor for Givi) and they agreed to have a look at my box to see what was wrong with it, but they could not be sure whether it would be covered by warranty as it might have been a parallel import.

I’m thinking, if it can’t be repaired cheaply, I’m going to get some Hepco and Becker boxes instead. I mean, Givi is supposed to be a reputable brand, less than 1 yr old boxes shouldn’t be able to fall off their base plates just like that, it could get really dangerous.

So I’m going down to Serangoon road again. Damn, Serangoon road/bendemeer road/jalan besar has become almost like my home now. Maybe I should get a pair of handguards while I’m at it huh.

Update: Problem has been resolved. I was securing the box improperly. Thanks to Mah Motor for explaining to me how I should secure it properly.
